Your local pharmacist (sometimes called chemist), is able to give expert advice on many conditions, from sprains to stomach upsets. Pharmacists can also give advice on a range of matters such as healthy eating, stopping smoking and emergency contraception. You do not need an appointment to see a pharmacist.

How much are NHS prescription charges?

The prescription charge in England is currently £9.65 per item. If you know you'll have to pay for a lot of NHS prescriptions, it may be cheaper to buy a prescription prepayment certificate (PPC). A PPC lets you get as many NHS prescriptions as you need for a set price. There are 2 PPC options to choose from:

How can I find out about pharmacy urgent and out of hours care?
