Bereavement support for parents and families of people with a learning disability

The death of a family member is one of life’s most challenging events.

The Enfield End of Life Care Steering Group appreciate that for family carers of people with a learning disability, these challenges are often significantly greater.

We believe it is very important to find the right support at this time.

We have included some links below of organisations that can help.

Bereavement support

SLOW, which stands for 'Surviving the Loss of Our Word', offer support specifically for bereaved parents and siblings. They provide an informal, quiet space for you to meet with other bereaved parents and siblings and share your experiences. SLOW have experience of supporting bereaved family carers of people with a disability.

Sometimes bereavements can be complicated. If you think it might help to talk to a therapist the organisations below could help.

Enfield Talking Therapies is a free NHS service that accepts self-referrals and GP referrals for counselling.

The Black, African and Asian Therapy Network the largest community of Counsellors and Psychotherapists of Black, African, Asian and Caribbean Heritage in the UK.

The Muslim Counsellor and Psychotherapy Network. operates as an independent network, providing resources to the public, alongside services and resources to its members. They provide a professional Muslim Counselling Directory and Muslim Supervision Directory for easy access to qualified and registered Counsellors, Therapists, Psychologists and Supervisors.

The South Asian Therapists goal is to create a one stop shop for South Asian support to allow South Asians around the world to find the right mental health support for them.

Pink Therapy are the UK’s largest independent therapy organization working with gender and sexual diversity clients.
