Local groups, clubs and day centres
There are lots of groups, clubs and Day Centres in Enfield that will give you the chance to get out and about and meet other people and take part in different activities.
Some groups, clubs and Day Centres provide lunch (at an additional cost to the service user).
Some also provide transport to pick you up and take you home again if you're unable to get to any of the groups, clubs and Day Centres on your own (transport is at an additional cost).

Shopmobility
Shopmobility Edmonton offer free 2-hour loans of manual or powered wheelchairs and scooters for people with mobility problems, whether permanent or temporary, so they can access shops and services.
Enfield wheelchair service
Enfield Wheelchair Service - provides wheelchairs and associated equipment to adults and children living in Enfield who have no or reduced walking ability, a permanent or long-term medical condition, or a projected prognosis of 6 months or over.
The service provides:
- Clinical assessment to consider physical, postural, social and environmental needs
- Provision of a wheelchair and equipment tailored to meet the assessed needs
- Full instruction and handover on the use, care, basic safety and maintenance of the equipment
- Access to an Approved Repairer who provide a repair, delivery, modification, planned maintenance and collection service
- Reassessment and review at the individuals request

Wheelchair repair
If you have a wheelchair on loan from Enfield Wheelchair Service, you can request a repair by calling our approved repair Contractor, DGT services, on 01245 468834 or by logging a request at DGT Services.

RADAR National key scheme
Radar National Key Scheme ensures that people with disabilities have easy access to over 7,000 locked public toilets around the country.
To request a RADAR key, visit the Community Hub at either Edmonton Green or Enfield Town library.
You may be required to show proof of disability.
Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 2:30pm.

If you have difficulty using public transport, or you just need some support to get out and about, there are a variety of community transport schemes that can help.
Access to work - part of Job Centre Plus provides advice and practical support to disabled people and their employers to help overcome work related obstacles resulting from disability, including travel to and from the workplace.
Queen Elizabeth Foundation Mobility Centre - offers training and advice for those with disabilities who drive or wish to continue to drive and remain independently mobile.
Transport for London's (TfL) - Transport accessibility - has a guide to getting around London and describes the accessibility features on public transport in the London area. It also has a guide for people with learning difficulties.
Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee (DPTAC), advises the government on transport needs of all disabled people. Its website has useful transport links for people with disabilities.
Direct Enquiries - The Nationwide Access Register - offers accessibility information about a wide range of public places, including:

National Rail can make special arrangements for disabled or mobility-impaired passengers.
Disabled and Reduced Mobility Airport Guide has guidance for people with a disability when travelling through unfamiliar environments such as an airport. It includes information for those travelling with visual impairments, breathing problems, flying with guide dogs, travelling with autism, wheelchair access, and needing help at the car park.

If your disability causes you substantial difficulties with getting around then you may be eligible for additional financial support with getting around from the Department of Work and Pensions, subject to assessment.
- Personal Independence Payments if you are between 16 and 65-year-old
- Attendance Allowance if you are over 65-year-old
Freedom passes
Freedom Pass is a concessionary travel scheme, which began in 1973, to provide free travel to residents of Greater London, England, who are aged 60 and over or who have a disability.
60+ London oyster photocard
If you're 60 or over and live in a London borough, you can get free travel on our transport services with a 60+ London Oyster photocard.
Disabled person's parking permit (Blue Badge)
The Blue Badge scheme helps people who are registered blind and people with certain disabilities to park closer to shops and services.

Elderly person's parking permit (Brown Badge)
If you're over 70, living in Enfield, and do not currently hold a disabled person's Blue Badge, you can apply for a free Brown Badge. This will allow you to park in specially-designated parking spaces across Enfield.
Railcards
Disabled Persons Railcard - The Disabled Persons Railcard is a Railcard specifically for people who has a disability that will entitle both you and an adult companion to 1/3 off train fares throughout Great Britain.
Senior Rail Card - The Senior Railcard is a Railcard specifically for senior citizens. It gives people aged 60 and over 1/3 off train fares throughout Great Britain.
Motability
Motability provides disabled people with safe and affordable cars, powered wheelchairs and scooters.
London Dial-a-ride
Dial-a-Ride is a free door-to-door service for disabled people who cannot use buses, trains or the tube.
London Taxicard scheme
The London Taxicard Scheme uses designated black cabs and local minicabs at a reduced rate for people who are blind, disabled or who have serious mobility difficulties, and find public transport difficult or impossible.
Additional assistance
Occupational therapy (OT)
If you have more complex needs with completing functional tasks and difficulties with accessing your bedroom or bathroom, you can be referred to the Occupational Therapy Team for a specialist assessment of your needs. If appropriate, you may be provided with suitable equipment or adaptations. Additionally, be assessed to access the community, which could include recommendations for a ramp or other necessary modifications to improve your accessibility and independence.
